after a long day of exploring campuses, our party(my mother, aunt, cousin and i) was in desperate need of sustenance. our daytime diet of trail mix and carrot sticks just wasn’t cutting it. after roaming the streets of baltimore for longer than our hungry bodies could handle, we stumbled upon a tiny corner cafe in little italy. we were led up the steepest staircase, like, ever(bless my 12 years of classical ballet training for allowing me to maintain my balance) into the “dining room” and quickly decided that, due to the tiny menu lacking meatless options(happy lent!!!), we were going to ditch. a quick urbanspoon search led us up the block to the oceanaire, a baltimore institution boasting incredible seafood and terrific atmosphere. we were quickly seated in the comfiest booth i have ever sat in. such a blessing after a day of walking. our waitress was incredibly knowledgeable about every. single. dish. and she wanted us to know so. after her soliloquy, she brought us a tiny piece of smoked salmon sushi each as an opener to the meal. so into that. moving forward, we ordered an array of appetizers ranging from tuna tartare to asian fried calamari and chose maryland specialties as our entrees. lump crab cakes, anyone? yes please! despite the fact that the dinner was pricey and sides did not come with our meals, the atmosphere and a la carte options made up for it.
