after departing the beautiful charleston, we ventured further down the east coast to sunny savannah, georgia where we stayed just long enough to grab a quick lunch and take in the coastal scenery.
our selected lunch stop was tubby’s, a casual, waterfront eatery offering a selection of sandwiches, salads and savannah specialties. we were seated on the upper deck of the restaurant, the perfect dining environment for a balmy april day. also, on the deck we were lucky enough to be able to hear live music by a local artist throughout our meal.
to start, we ordered the fried green tomatoes to share. the slightly bitter fruit was breaded in a super crispy and slightly spicy batter and fried to absolute perfection. they were served drizzled with a spicy aioli and accompanied by ranch dressing for dipping. a perfect start to the rest of our lunch.
as the main event, i ordered a crab cake sandwich served on a perfectly toasted bun with tubby’s “special sauce.” directly on the menu, it was stated that the crab cake was made with no fillers, just pure crab meat. this surely was true. the bulk of the sandwich was a meaty, yet luscious crab cake, lightly breaded and crunchy on the outside. i was more than happy with my choice.
tubby’s was the perfect destination for a casual, yet delicious lunch in an inviting setting. both the food and atmosphere made for the perfect lunch stop during our journey down the coast.
yum!
