hello again! as promised, i am back to share a few must-visit destinations if you ever find yourself on the yucatan peninsula. of course, it’s hard to narrow it down because there is simply so much to do, but i tried my best :)
before you begin taking any excursions, be sure to spend at least a full day just relaxing on the beach. the peninsula is home to the world’s second largest coral reef(right after the great barrier) and boasts warm, crystal clear water and stark-white sand that begs to be lied upon for hours on end…don’t forget your spf!
if you only take one major excursion during your trip, make a point to visit tulum. this historical site perfectly juxtaposes mexico’s rich tribal history with tourist appeal. a hike through mayan ruins leads to el castillo, one of the most photographed beaches in the world(no, seriously!). the beach is nestled under steep canyons and provides a perfect place for a refreshing plunge after a day of exploring.
after this adventure, it is worth staying in tulum and enjoying the rich culture that mayan descendant still living in the area provide. take some time to simply stroll and familiarize yourself with traditional mayan art forms and local wildlife.
nestled just an hour from tulum is the captivating, local town of puerto morelos. the tiny city is brimming with artisans selling handmade products, as well as unique eateries and plenty of attractions that show off the natural beauty of the country. my family and i chose to take a snorkeling tour from puerto morelos and could not have been happier to spend almost two hours exploring with locals, opposed to hiring a guide from our resort.
overall, mexico is the ideal place to enjoy a combination of relaxing beach days and exhilarating excursions. i encourage you to take note of a few of my personal faves in planning your next trip! also, it’s totally worth investing in a go pro camera to capture footage of your adventures both on land and underwater :)
